Cheryl Freier writes with a teacher’s heart and an artist’s eye. She currently lives in Northampton, MA, studies developmental disabilities direct support to complement her master’s in special needs, and has spent many years as a preschool teacher. Her writing is inspired by her husband’s experiences as a young boy in Nazi-occupied Slovakia.
Set in the later months of 1944, amid fierce resistance in Slovakia, The Posol of Micholovce follows Marek Horvath — “Posol” (messenger) —who risks everything to deliver food to families hiding in forests, caves, and bunkers. It’s a tale of grit, faith, and small mercies under crushing odds.
